After our drive across the Five Finger Mountain Range, we will start our walking tour from the old Girne city gate (Porta del Proveditore) and walk, past the Venetian Column, towards the Büyük Han, an old Caravanserai built by the Ottomans, restored and now filled with arts & crafts shops, which are run by crafts men/women and artists.
The narrow old city streets are filled with many small shops, old and new and are popular amongst bargain hunters. Gentlemen usually prefer to chill out in one of the many bars and cafes while ladies will ‘shop till they drop’. We visit the Selimiye Mosque, one of the best examples of a Gothic style cathedral, nowadays an active mosque and the covered market hall (Bandabuliya) where spices, Turkish delight, lace and other traditional souvenirs are being sold.
We will pass the pedestrian border crossing points of "Lokmacı" or "Ledra Street" in the heart of the walled city, so don’t forget to bring your passport as you will have a few hours’ free time to explore!
